The Awwie pain app is an innovative tool that helps care organizations better recognize, monitor, and discuss pain in people with intellectual disabilities.
In practice, we know that pain often does not manifest clearly in this target group.
Signs can be subtle, atypical, or difficult to interpret—especially when a person has limited verbal communication skills.
At the same time, we know that people with intellectual disabilities experience pain more frequently,
yet that pain is also more often overlooked, underestimated, or treated too late.
This has a major impact on comfort, quality of life, and the quality of care.

What is Awwie?
Awwie is the digital version of the validated VOPS-MB pain scale, built upon more than 16 years of experience in pain care for people with intellectual disabilities.
Awwie does not rely on standardized pain signals; instead, it uses a personalized pain profile tailored to each individual receiving care.
This makes Awwie unique—just like each of us!

Curious about what Awwie can do for your organization?

In short: Awwie makes pain visible, even when words fail...

Awwie is part of the *Comfort Netwerk Verstandelijke Beperking* (Comfort Network for Intellectual Disabilities), an expertise network where care organizations share knowledge, experience, and challenges regarding pain care.
