Special Olympics International (SOI) is the leading sports organization worldwide committed to the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities by providing them with the opportunity to engage in sports and promote a healthy lifestyle. Special Olympics is recognized by the International Olympic Committee.
Special Olympics Belgium vzw (SOB) was founded in 1979 as the Belgian partner with the aim of being an actor of change for a more inclusive society in which people with intellectual disabilities play an active and full role.
SOB currently counts 20,000 athletes, works with approximately 500 clubs and facilities for people with intellectual disabilities, and has a network of thousands of volunteers. Inclusion, sports, health, and education are central to SOB's activities and further development. This allows us to improve the lives of 165,000 Belgians with intellectual disabilities.
